Multiple Sclerosis

Medical cannabis for Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) Is a lifelong condition that can sometimes cause serious disability that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.

The exact cause of MS is not known, It is thought to occur as a result of complex interactions between a person’s genes and their environment. Depending on the type of MS you have, your symptoms may come and go in phases or get steadily worse over time (progress).

MS is most commonly diagnosed in people in their 20s, 30s and 40s although it can develop at any age. Average life expectancy is slightly reduced for people with MS. It’s about 2 to 3 times more common in women than men.

Pain affects around two thirds of people with MS and there is an estimated 10,000 people with pain and spasticity symptoms in MS where licensed treatments have not worked. (MS Society Report, 2021).

Medical Cannabis is thought to help ease stiffness and muscle spasms that are common experienced with MS.
